Studies in African Linguistics

Journal Index

Introduction

This index is divided into three sections. The first section contains an author index, arranged alphabetically by the author's last name. For articles with multiple authors, the reference is provided under the first author's name. Second authors are listed, but the reader is referred to the first author for the complete reference.

The second section provides an index of titles, listed alphabetically by the first content word (i.e., ignoring articles such as a and the). The third section lists all languages, both African and non-African, referred to in the various articles. Since languages have been referred to in the literature with various spellings, these have been maintained as used, although cross-referencing has ameliorated the problem to some extent. Bantu languages, in particular, have posed problems because of the variable use of the nominal prefix ki- or its variants. For the purposes of this index, Bantu languages have been entered, for the most part, without a prefix, hence, Chewa rather than Chichewa. There are several exceptions in cases where the name may be more widely known in the literature with the prefix, as with Kinyarwanda (rather than Rwanda).
