Checklist of items needed for a complete application to the doctoral program:
All these should arrive by November 15, if you are to be eligible for admission in the following Autumn (or Summer).Submitted online to the graduate application Web site:
- The completed application form. (Be sure to check "PhD" and "financial aid" boxes.)
- An application fee of $40 ($50 outside US).
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. (Official transcripts also need to go to the Department of Linguistics. It is often cheaper to order both copies at once.)
- Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report (have Educational Testing Service (ETS) send scores directly to Ohio State Admissions as well as to the Linguistics Department Office; use Institution Code R1592, Major Field Code 2903). Note that the analytical section must be the more recent analytical writing test and not the scores from the older multiple choice format test that was administered before 1999.
- If applicable, official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report.
- Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (see above).
- Official GRE score report (see above).
- Three letters of recommendation. You may use the on-line resource or the 2-page reference form from the application packet, and ask your referees to print their letters on official letterhead to enclose with the form.
- Brief autobiographical statement of your educational goals and objectives. (Hard copy only).
- A CV or resume of no more than two pages. (Hard copy only).
- Optional: sample of your work. (Hard copy only).
Application to the combined BA/MA program.
A complete application to the combined BA/MA program requires all of the above except the GRE and TOEFL scores.Applicants should use the "Domestic Applicants" form. (Be sure to check the M.A. box. Do not check the "financial aid" box.)
