The Honors Major in Linguistics

Honors Advisor: Cynthia Clopper, cclopper@ling.ohio-state.edu
Department website: Linguistics Web site

Honors students majoring in linguistics are expected to follow a course of study which is more challenging than the regular major. This includes a more specific analytic prerequisite (higher level logic or statistics), a 50 credit-hour requirement, an area-depth requirement consisting of a sequence of two (typically) upper level courses in one subject area, and a required research seminar.

(At least 50 hours, excluding prerequisites)

  1. Prerequisite Course Work (15 hours) -- does not count toward the minimum number of hours required in the major
    1. Introductory course in linguistics: (5 hours)
      Ling(H)201 or 270 or 601
    2. Language requirement (one of the following): (5 hours)
Advanced foreign language course beyond 104 (preferably at the 200 level)
Linguistics 550 or 650.01 (Field Methods). This may also be satisfied by 5 hours at any level in a second not closely related language, by permission
