Eligibility
SLIYS is open to high school students who are entering grades 9-12 in the upcoming school year. This typically corresponds to the ages of 13-18.
Admission to SLIYS is competitive. While there are no strict GPA requirements, a 3.0 or better overall GPA is recommended.
Each week of SLIYS meets for 5 hours on each of 5 weekdays, with several short breaks per day. The program is designed as a synchronous, interactive experience, so scholars' attendance is expected daily. Catching up via recorded video afterward is not possible, as no one, including program staff, is permitted to create or distribute a recording of a SLIYS session.
Given the virtual nature of SLIYS, access to the following items is required:
- A laptop or desktop computer (other devices are not recommended)
- A webcam and microphone
- Headphones or earbuds
- A quiet room from which to participate
The organizers of SLIYS are committed to making the program available to all eligible students. In no way should a student be discouraged from applying because of a disability. Any student who needs accommodations due to a disability should indicate this on their application, though this is for informational purposes only and will not be used to evaluate the application.
Cost
The tuition fee for SLIYS is $550 per week of instruction. That’s $550 for a single session, or $1100 for both SLIYS 1 and 2.
A non-refundable deposit of $25 is due within two weeks of being accepted into the program. The remaining tuition ($525 for one week, or $1075 for both weeks) must be paid by May 15. Payments must be made via credit card.
Need-based financial aid is available. If you would need financial assistance to enable you to participate in SLIYS, please mention financial aid in the “Additional Comments” field of your application.
