The Linguistics department met on April 25th to honor Julie McGory, our recently retired undergraduate coordinator, and celebrate her efforts to provide new furniture for the Oxley Hall courtyard. We officially opened the new courtyard to the department with Julie in attendance. Chair Cynthia Clopper thanked Julie for coordinating the furniture purchase, since the courtyard’s previous wooden furniture had badly deteriorated over the many years since it was installed. Thanks to Julie’s hard work, this beautiful outdoor space is now even more inviting for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy.
In recognition of Julie's efforts, we also held an unveiling ceremony to unofficially dedicate the courtyard to her. Many members of the department were in attendance, including students, faculty, and staff who had worked closely with Julie over the years. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Julie's contributions to the university and to acknowledge the impact that she has had on so many people.
Moving forward, we hope that the newly furnished courtyard will continue to serve as a gathering place for our community. And, of course, we extend our deepest thanks to Julie for her tireless efforts to make our campus a more beautiful and welcoming place. We wish her all the best in her retirement!
