OSU alumni got together after the 2019 Hanyang International Symposium on Phonetics and Cognitive Sciences of Language. Xiaofei Lu (PhD, '06) was promoted to Professor of Applied Linguistics and Asian Studies at Penn State in 2019, published a co-edited volume "Computational and Corpus Approaches to Chinese Language Learning" with Springer, and was awarded a grant by the TOEFL Committee of Examiners 2019 Research Program to conduct research on "Mappings Between Linguistic Features and Rhetorical Moves in TOEFL Essays and Their Relationship to Writing".
Shelome Gooden (PhD, '03) was invited to give one of the plenary talks at the LSA 2020 meeting. Title “Creole Language Prosody in the 21st Century.”
Mary Paster (BA, '00) has been promoted from associate professor to full professor in the Linguistics and Cognitive Science department at Pomona College.
Paul Gallagher (MA, '80) has worked for many years as a professional translator. He was elected as Asst. Administrator of the ATA Korean Language Division in October 2017 and later ascended to Administrator in October 2018, to which he was recently reelected for two more years.
Halyna Sydorenko (PhD, '96) has since taken up Scottish Country dancing and completed the part 1 of the teaching certification process in May 2019. She is now working with a mentor and doing weekly teaching in Toronto as well as leading sessions at her workplace, the Rotman School of Management. Halyna also appeared in dance scenes in Season 3, episode 306 of the period show Anne with an E.
