Speech Production Lab
Room 06, Oxley Hall
Mary Beckman, Cynthia Clopper, and Shari Speer are the wardens of this common experimental lab space. The sound booth in room 6 is the largest sound booth in the department, easily able to accommodate two interlocutors. It is also double sealed, with an internal and external door, making it the one of the quietest locations in the entire OSU campus. Equipment in the sound booth in room 6 includes a variety of audio equipment, hookup to a desktop PC outside of the booth, and a desk and chairs inside the booth. Other equipment may be brought in, for example, a laptop and flat screen monitor, a digital recording device, additional microphones and headsets, a serial response box, etc. In addition to being the recording site for the Buckeye Corpus, the sound booth has been used for videotaping of articulations, with and without ultrasound, sociolinguistic interviews, stimuli recording sessions, and a host of experiments that have benefitted from the ability to record speech productions during the experiment.
