On April 24, 2025, Brian was inducted as a member of the American Philosophical Society, the oldest learnèd society in the United States. Technically elected in 2019, due to COVID restrictions, it wasn't until this year that he was officially admitted!
On May 23, 2025, Kathleen Currie Hall (OSU '09) was awarded the Killam Teaching Prize by the University of British Columbia, where she has been teaching linguistics since 2012. Dr. Hall shares, "My most rewarding feedback from students is when they tell me they feel more confident int heir own abilities after taking my course. I couldn't be happier to receive the Killam Teaching Prize, because it means that my students and colleagues think that my strategies are effective, which is always my goal in the classroom." Congratulations Dr. Hall!
Two of our undergraduate students received awards for their linguistics projects:
- Charlie Rowe (Linguistics major and Computational Analysis of Language certificate student) received an Undergraduate Research Scholarship for a project entitled "Missing or mixed up? What judgements to Spanish verbs reveal about defectiveness."
- Emily Leach (Linguistics minor and Computational Analysis of Language certificate student) received an Undergraduate Research Scholarship for a project entitled "Exploring the Whole-Object Bias in Machine Learning."
Congratulations Charlie and Emily on your scholarships!
