In conjunction with the 39th Penn Linguistics Conference, the Penn Linguistics Department held a special panel titled "Sociolinguistic Frontiers” on the occasion of Bill Labov’s retirement. There were five people on the panel, Labov included, who were there to discuss "pressing issues and emerging areas of inquiry" for the next 50 years of sociolinguistics. Two of those were faculty member Kathryn Campbell-Kibler and alumna Robin Dodsworth (PhD, ’05).
- Kathryn Campbell-Kibler: Cognitive Questions of Sociolinguistic Meaning
- Robin Dodsworth: New Approaches to Network Analysis in Sociolinguistics
Congratulations to both on this honor, and we look forward to seeing the ways that Ohio State Linguistics shapes the field in the years to come
