Professor Shari Speer has received the 2020 President and Provost’s Award for Distinguished Faculty Service. The award was presented (virtually!) to Shari by Provost McPheron.
Graduate students Katie Conner and Yuhong Zhu were each awarded a 2020 Ilse Lehiste Memorial Fund Graduate Research Award.
TA Coordinator Hope Dawson was recognized for her exemplary work in supporting the department in moving to online instruction in OAA's Stories of Resolve.
Undergraduate Linguistics major Heather Radcliffe was awarded an Honorable Mention in the annual sonnet contest held by Lord Denney’s Players, the Department of English, and the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
Graduate student Shawntel Barreiro was awarded a 2020 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides three years of financial support, including a stipend and tuition.
Associate Professor Marie-Catherine de Marneffe was awarded an NSF grant for student support to attend the fourth Universal Dependencies workshop in September in Barcelona. She has also secured additional funding from Google to provide similar support for students who are not at U.S. universities.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, we will have two Eminence Fellows among our undergraduate Linguistics majors, Grace LeFevre and Margot Hare. The Eminence Scholarship recognizes students for their outstanding academic achievement and community engagement. We are delighted to have Grace and Margot in our program.

Professor Andrea Sims was awarded a Small Grant from the College of Arts and Sciences to develop American Sign Language drawings for the third edition of her textbook, Understanding Morphology.
Professor Bob Levine was awarded an Arts & Humanities Larger Grant entitled “Treebank development for the computational implementation of a hybrid type logic for natural language processing.”
